Dual Apprenticeships
Specially qualified staff with a variety of vocational “dual apprenticeship” qualifications are employed in the micro and nanotechnology production processes. These “dual apprenticeships” comprise a mixture of job- and sector-specific theoretical and practical training. Almost half the Dortmund companies in this sector trains apprentices themselves and because of the high growth rate most companies have been able to offer their apprentices full employment once they have qualified.
In addition to the officially recognized apprenticeship profession of “Microtechnologist”, which was born in the year 1998 as an official vocation for the micro and nanotechnology sector, Dortmund companies also have apprenticeship places for trainees from other technical vocations.
In addition to having basic technical and scientific knowledge it is important for all applicants for apprenticeship places in micro and nanotechnology to enjoy dealing creatively with technical challenges. Basic skills such as teamwork, neatness, disciplined working and independence are also important for the day to day work.
