1st Dortmund Microtechnology Summer School
from 21 - 25 August 2006
Engineering and natural sciences students have the opportunity to make contact with representatives from the scientific community and local companies at the 1st Dortmund Microtechnology Summer School from 21 – 25 August 2006. Something all the events organizers agree on is that micro and nanotechnology are the technologies of the future. That is why it is so important to make the technical and professional prospects of this sector accessible to students. The summer school is organized by dortmund-project, IVAM Specialist Association for Microtechnology, the Universities of Applied Science in Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen and the Technical University of Dortmund.
30 students have the opportunity to get a concentrated insight into the subject of microtechnology at the five day summer school. This introduction is provided by lectures from the scientific community and industry on microtechnology production procedures such as electron beam lithography and deep reactive etching. Applications ranging from the automotive sector to the biomedical technology sector are also to be examined. The specialists will also discuss the market chances and opportunities for young entrepreneurs. The afternoons are taken up with visits to Dortmund companies. Contact partners include Elmos, Boehringer Ingelheim Microparts, Bartels Mikrotechnik, LIMO Lissotschenko Mikrooptik, the MST.factory dortmund and IVAM. Other interested companies can also take part as partners.
The high-tech location of Dortmund, one of the largest and oldest microtechnology agglomerations in Germany is characterized both by microtechnology companies of the first hour and a great many start-ups; for the most part these are small and medium sized high-tech companies. In the vicinity of the Technologiepark, renowned universities provide a suitable environment for practice-oriented learning close to relevant companies.
