2nd NRW Nano Conference presents topical issues relating to future-oriented technology
Dortmund, 22 June 2009. North Rhine-Westphalia numbers among the leading locations for nanotechnology - this is demonstrated by the 2nd NRW Nano Conference at the Westfalenhallen Dortmund conference centre. Topical issues from the point of view of users and researchers are on the agenda today and tomorrow. In addition, around 65 companies, institutes and research institutions present themselves in a parallel exhibition.

As of 10 am today everything at Dortmunds conference location revolves around the tiniest of particles and structures. About 400 specialist visitors are expected at the NRW Nano Conference this year after the successful premiere in 2008. Within the framework of the two-day event experts from research and industry provide information on trends from diverse fields of the future-oriented nanotechnology sector and present current developments. The topic of technology transfer constitutes a focal point that is presented on the basis of successful projects from practice.
North Rhine-Westphalia numbers among the leading locations for nanotechnology, emphasized Professor Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, Minister of Innovation, Science, Research and Technology in North Rhine-Westphalia, in his welcoming speech. The state government will support the NanoMicro+Materials sector as one of four future fields with 100 million euros and thus strengthen even more the strengths of North Rhine-Westphalia as an innovation location.
The high-ranking international speakers on the first day of the event include Dr. Wolfgang Plischke, member of the Management Board of Bayer AG, Professor V. M. Andreev from the renowned Ioffe Institute in Saint Petersburg and the Chairman of the Board at the Jülich research centre, Professor Dr. Achim Bachem.
On the second day four in-depth sessions are on the agenda. They treat the topics Nanotechnology in the energy sector, Research and technology landscape NRW, Cooperation country Russia as well as Opportunities and risks of nanotechnology.
The Nano Conference shows that North Rhine-Westphalia is well equipped in the future-oriented sectors, states Udo Mager, Managing Director of City of Dortmund Economic Development Agency, which invited the guests to the event jointly with the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Innovation. It offers a whole range of successful projects, not least of all from Dortmund and the region. As one of the biggest microsystem technology / nanotechnology clusters in Germany, Dortmund is glad to be the host of the conference again.
